Highlights

How to live in the present and embrace the future

A sporty crossover with a groundbreaking hybrid drive system, the Niro explores new territory. It indulges the driver in you with exciting performance and entices the scientist in you with its heroic efficiency. It’s also quite stylish to behold. The Niro does more than just move you. It makes the future look brighter.

Fully folding, split rear seats

The rear seatbacks split 60:40 and fold completely flat for maximum cargo capacity and flexibility. Take advantage of all the choices to accommodate more combinations of passengers and cargo. Because the seatbacks fold flat, the cargo area can accommodate large boxes or a stack of flat items.

Interior flexibility

The Niro's interior is flexible enough to support a truly active lifestyle. It's equally well equipped for a night on the town, a day in the country or a week on the road. Seatbacks fold flat for long cargo, while valuables can be stowed safely out of view.

Sound system

Fill the cabin of the Niro with crystal-clear sound. The advanced 6-speaker sound system uses four door-mounted speakers and a pair of tweeters in front to create accurate and full-bodied sound reproduction. The system accepts auxiliary, USB and Bluetooth® inputs and features optional RD S reception.

Auto defogger system

Sensors detect any condensation forming on the inside of the front windshield and the defogger automatically turns on for maximum visibility and safety.

Wireless smartphone charger

Charge a compatible mobile phone wirelessly on the charging pad located at the front of the center console. There's no need to find and connect a cord. An illuminated indicator informs you of the charging status.

Bluetooth handsfree with steering wheel remote control

Built-in Bluetooth® connects paired, compatible mobile devices seamlessly with the audio system for music streaming and hands-free mobile communication.

8-way power driver’s seat

To help make driving as comfortable and effortless as possible, the 8-way power driver's seat adjusts vertically and fore-aft while also offering tilt and lumbar support.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

TPMS keeps track of the pressure inside each of the tires. It tells you which tire is under-inflated by displaying its pressure value on the cluster screen.

Push-button start

The engine start/stop button lets you turn the Niro's ignition on and off with the push of a finger.

Performance

Eco-friendly driving powered by two hearts

The Niro employs a parallel hybrid system that switches between gasoline and electric power, or uses a combination of both, and charges the battery whenever it can. The system is seamless and responsive while achieving class-leading efficiency. CO2 emissions are inspiringly low at 88 g/km.

Performance

Sculpted and streamlined beauty with a purpose

The true beauty of the Niro’s aerodynamic design is in the way it rolls and the way it slices through the air squeezing out extra mileage.

Performance

The right technology can make every road greener

A long drive through nature is even sweeter in a vehicle as eco-friendly as the hybrid Niro, especially in Eco drive mode. The Niro’s dynamic persona comes out as soon as you select the Sport mode.

Permanent magnet electric motor

Providing up to 43.5 ps on its own, the electric motor also assists the gasoline engine in hybrid mode and recharges the battery during deceleration.

Newly developed 6-speed DCT

A new 6-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) transfers engine/motor power efficiently and delivers dynamic drivability with fast shift response and direct feeling.

Regenerative braking system

Kinetic energy produced when decelerating or coming to a stop is captured and turned into electricity. This in turn is used to help recharge the battery.

New Kappa 1.6 GDI engine

This 1.6 GDI engine generates maximum output of 105 ps at 5,700 rpm and peak torque of 15.0 kg·m at 4,000 rpm, the perfect match for the Niro’s hybrid system. All told, the system offers a combined maximum output of 141 ps.

Lithium-ion polymer battery

Durable and lightweight, the 1.56kWh lithium-ion polymer battery safely positioned below the rear seat sufficiently controls electrical energy and cools more effectively.

Under-body aerodynamics

Out of view, the drivetrain, chassis, exhaust and exposed body elements are designed to create the least possible drag as the Niro moves forward.

Drive Mode Select (DMS)

With the selector in Drive, pull the handle to the left to engage Sport mode and enjoy enhanced shift point and steering settings as well as manual style-shifting. Push the handle to the right for more efficient Eco mode operation.

Active air flap

An active air flap behind the grille cools the engine. It closes at higher speeds to reduce drag for better performance and fuel efficiency.

Air curtain

An air curtain creates accelerated airflow at the front, reducing drag caused by turbulent air for improved aerodynamics.

Rear diffuser

A spoiler panel below the rear of the Niro is sculpted with longitudinal ridges for stability and aerodynamic control.

Rear spoiler

Located above the tailgate window, a rear spoiler takes advantage of airflow to help stabilize the body when traveling at speed.

Safety

Safe for the planet and for people

Kia’s ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) technology initiative, dedicated to delivering driving pleasure and the utmost in occupant and pedestrian safety, by taking over the tedious and complex tasks traditionally left to drivers.

Safety

Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and hot-stamped steel

The Kia Niro uses more than 53% Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS), resulting in phenomenal rigidity. And hot-stamping of components is applied to 24 parts in stress areas. These measures greatly improve body strength, enhancing cabin protection and improving dynamic performance.

Blind Spot Detection (BSD)

Blind Spot Detection uses sensors to monitor the sides and rear of the vehicle, and using visual alerts, informs the driver about vehicles in the blind spot for easier and safer lane changes.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

When you back out of a parking spot or driveway, this system gives you a warning if it detects any cross traffic in the lane the vehicle is entering.

Parking Assist System (PAS)

For confident parking, PAS uses ultrasonic sensors mounted on the front and rear bumpers to warn of any obstacles when maneuvering into tight spaces.

7 airbags

To help protect occupants and potentially reduce injuries in the event of a collision, the Niro offers driver and front passenger airbags, two front-side airbags, two side-curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag as standard.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

ESC ensures optimal braking performance and directional control by automatically delivering the right amount of braking force to each wheel according to engine torque and driving conditions.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC)

At a standstill on an incline, HAC prevents you from rolling backward by gently applying the brakes for up to two seconds as your foot goes from the brake to the accelerator.

Aluminum body elements (hood / tailgate)

While critical points use more high-strength steel than ever, aluminum is used in the hood and tailgate to help reduce weight by as much as 11 kg for better handling and fuel economy.
